USPTO announces special patent for humanity Covid-19 category

The USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) has announced on 5thApril, 2021 that it is considering to launch a special category of its patents for ‘humanity program for inventions addressing the Covid-19 pandemic’. This will provide business inducement for patent holders and licensees whose inventions will add up in tackling the pandemic situation. extended to the innovators coming up with solutions to track, diagnose and prevent Covid-19. The Patents for Humanity Awards was launched in the year 2012, and it is considered as USPTO’s top honor for patent applications. The winners receive a certificate to accelerate USPTO processing for one eligible matter as well as public recognition of their work. Under the Humanity Program Improvement Award, winners are also eligible to transfer their certificate to third parties including compensation and obtain funds as well.
