Researcher in China sentenced to 33 months prison for stealing trade-secrets

Yu Zhou, a former resercher at the Ohio Children’s hospital has been sentenced 33-months prison for attempting and conspiring of stealing and selling trade secrets to China. Yu Zhou along with his wife Li Chen used to conduct research at Nationwide Childrem’s Hospital in Coloumbus in separate laboratories, each for a time period of ten years. Li Chen has also agreed to pay $2.6 million in restitution and additional assets as a result of their convictions. The couple have admitted of conspiring to steal exosome-related trade secrets and further illegally transferring the same to China.

Exosomes play a role in the research, identification and treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. Li Chen had previously received 30 month prison sentence in the month of February, 2021.
