Patent licensing agreement signed between NOKIA and SAMSUNG

Nokia has signed a patent licensing agreement with Samsung, to license patents that cover video technology standards. Samsung will be provided access to the innovations in video standards covered by the patents of Nokia. Nokia will be benefitted by way of royalties for use of its video standard patents by Samsung. The exact terms of the agreement and the royalties that Samsung will have to pay, remain confidential between the parties. Over the years Nokia has invested a lot in research and development and have extensively contributed for the development of industry standards.

Many companies have previously signed license agreements with Nokia to use these technologies without the need to make their own substantial investments in research and development. This comes after Ericsson filed a law suit in the United States, accusing Samsung of infringing on its patents in several communications in both 4G and 5G wireless cellular communication systems.
