India rank’s 40th on International Property Index

India has secured rank 40 among 53 global economies scoring 38.4 out of 100 on a set of 50 Intellectual-property indicators in the latest Annual Edition of International Intellectual Property Index. India’s overall score increased from 36.04 percent in the seventh edition to 38.46 percent in the eighth edition. The report stated that India has shown real improvement over the past few years like stronger enforcement efforts and precedent setting court cases involving infringement cases of copyright and trademark, which have resulted in a score increase.

India registered the second highest growth over nine editions of the US Chamber Index, among the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa) nations with an overall improvement of 13%. The IP Index released annually by the US Chamber of Commerce Global Innovation Policy Centre (GIPC), evaluates IP rights in 53 global economies starting from patent and copyright policies to commercialization of IP assets and ratification of international treaties.
