'Go Air' airline rebranded as ‘Go First’

The Aviation sector being one of the most hit during the Covid-19 pandemic, Wadia-group owned airlines, ‘Go Air’ rebrands its name as ‘Go First’. The trademark ‘Go Air’ is owned by Go Holding Private Limited since the year 2005, and they had licensed the brand to Go Airlines for a period of 4 years (2006-2009 and 2013-2014). For the remaining years, the use of the brands was not by way on any written-license agreements. Go Holdings had applied for registration of the mark ‘Go Airlines’ and ‘www.goair.in’ in the month of March, 2021.

They have also filed for transfer of 115 domain names registered in the name of Go Airlines from one domain registrar to another in the National Internet Exchange of India. Go Airlines have opposed the applications filed by Go Holdings and stated they have also applied for trademark registration for the similar marks ‘Go Airlines’ and ‘www.goairlines.in’ in the month of April, 2021. Go Airlines on 11th May, 2021, have filed various trademark applications before Trademark Registry Office, Delhi for registration of word and logo marks of ‘Go First’, ‘www.gofirstair.in’ and ‘www.gofirstair.co.in’. The color and look of the logo have been changed with a promise of cheaper fares, young fleet and safe operations. The current status of the following applications is ‘Formalities Check Pass’.
