PepsiCo is an international brand that is popular in almost every household. Be it the relief brought by a chilled bottle of Pepsi or the delicious chips by Lay’s, PepsiCo has been catering to various needs of people across the globe. It is now planning to venture into another rewarding business, alcoholic drinks and hard seltzer. PepsiCo has filed a new trademark application (Serial no. 90773009) for its ‘ROCKSTAR’ mark. In the USPTO trademark application on 14th of June 2021, PepsiCo has applied for the mark under Class 32 and 33.

While Class 32 deals with ‘Beers and beverages’, Class 33 deals with ‘alcoholic fruit cocktail drinks, alcoholic malt beverages and hard seltzer’. PepsiCo filed this application under a provision that states PepsiCo’s intent of using this mark for alcoholic beverages but has yet to do it. The current status of the application is ‘awaiting examination’. This move is being said to be on the lines of a recent trend of producing hard seltzer. Recently, Coca-Cola has entered into a deal with Molson Coors for making a seltzer version of Topo Chico (its sparkling water).
