Basketball legend Late Kobe Bryant’s estate files trademark application for own brand

Basketball legend Kobe Bryant’s estate hints at building of an IP Portfolio for the launch of a new brand as more than 13 trademark applications have been filed with the USPTO by Kobe Bryant’s wife Vanessa Bryant, since May 2020. The latest trademark applications include registration for the marks ‘Play Gigi’s Way’, ‘Mamba’, ‘Mambacita’, ‘Baby Mambas’, ‘Mamba League’, ‘Kobe Bryant’ among many others. The separate trademark applications have been filed for goods/services including clothing, footwear, loungewear.

The current status of all these applications is ‘1B’ which means ‘intent to use’ giving a clear picture that an underlying business may be launched soon. Entrepreneur Shervin Pishevar on 20th April, 2021 revealed via twitter that Kobe Bryant had spoken to him about his plans of leaving Nike in the year 2020 and to start his own sneaker company named ‘Mamba’. This comes shortly after Nike and Kobe Bryant’s estate parted ways after a l8-yearlong partnership.
